Light coverage, hydration and SPF–what’s not to love about multi-tasking tinted moisturizers? The only question left to ask is, Which is the best tinted moisturizer for you? Read on for our picks this summer.
Most Popular: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. This celebrity favourite (Kim Karadashian is a fan) offers sheer coverage along with SPF and antioxidant benefits. We love the lightweight formula and dewy glow it gives our skin. Also available in an oil-free formula.
Best Color: We love the glow imparted by Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Mineral Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. The lightweight tinted moisturizer offers sheer coverage, moisturizing benefits and SPF, but it’s the colour we’re most excited about. Where some tinted moisturizers wash out our skin so that it’s necessary to apply blush and bronzer afterward to achieve that “natural” summer glow, Pur Minerals left our skin so glowing and healthy looking, we could skip that last step. Now that’s multi-tasking.
Most Versatile: What’s cool about Laboratoire Dr Renaud Colour Glow Complexion Creator is how the pigment mixes with whatever moisturizer or SPF product you prefer to use–just add it to your favourite summer staple and ta-dah! Coverage, hydration and SPF are yours. The made-in-Canada brand also aims to do it as naturally as possible–Dr Renaud’s skin care products are created with naturally derived ingredients. Just a word of warning, though: A little goes a long way. Two dots of the good stuff mixed in with our daytime SPF moisturizer imparted sheer coverage and nice colour–a little more and we’d be sporting a Snooki-like tan.
Best Coverage: Okay, so technically it’s not a tinted moisturizer, but it does offer nice summer coverage without the weight of heavier foundations. If sheer is a little too sheer, Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup is for you. It has a thicker consistency than you’ll find in tinted moisturizers but offers a matte finish that will help stave us summer sweat and oil buildup. While it evened out our skin tone, it did require an application of blush and bronzer afterward for a more “natural”-looking summer glow.
Most Innovative: It still never fails to amaze us each time we squeeze out a dose of L’Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream into our palms–the grey-ish lotion doesn’t look at all like any moisturizer or foundation we’ve ever tried before. That’s because it’s not: Although not a tinted moisturizer per se, the latest offering to arrive in the much ballyhooed Beauty Balm category does offers moisturizing benefits as well as sheer coverage, evening out skin tone and imperfections, while giving skin a (slightly whitish) radiant finish.
Best SPF: Another non-tinted moisturizer we just have to include here is SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50. The 100% mineral sunscreen offers sheer coverage along with serious broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Use it with SkinCeuticals Serum 10 AOX+, which protects against infrared radiation, to amp up total sun protection. You can read more about it here.
