Publicity star Natasha Koifman has rep’d more than her share of covetable brands over the years. The chief buzz maker runs the Toronto/New York-based PR agency NKPR–now celebrating it’s 10th anniversary–and also founded The IT Lounge celebrity gifting suite held at TIFF each year, a popular celebrity stop. Here, the media insider takes us behind the scenes and shares her beauty musts.
What’s a regular day like for you?
Meetings, meetings, meetings! Email, email, email! A Bottlegreen break in between, and a Quad Spin class at the end of the day.
Best part about the job?
I constantly find myself in new situations and I love being open to all of the exciting opportunities that life presents to me through my work. I’m always being inspired by the amazing people I encounter.
Why the obsession with style?
I recently heard a quote from Bobbie Thomas that summed it up perfectly: “Style is the way we speak to the world without words.” It’s about self-expression.
Who’s your beauty icon?
Sarah Lucero, STILA’s Global Creative Director and a celebrity makeup artist. She is brave in every sense of the word.
Person who has most influenced your approach to style?
Victoria Beckham. She is the perfect combination of a woman who understands design, business and family, and knows how to successfully integrate it while maintaining balance and style. Love her book That Extra Half An Inch.
What’s your beauty routine?
In the morning I use L’Oreal facial wipes and Kiehl’s Calendula Toner, which helps even out my skin tone. I also use Abyssine Eye Cream+ and Face Cream+ SPF 23. Abyssine is a molecule that survives under extreme conditions, and my skin undergoes some extreme conditions! I also love that it has a built-in SPF.
Before bed it’s Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye. Kiehl’s Deep Wrinkle Filler is good for the wrinkles, and Midnight Recovery Concentrate gives my skin a smoother, more radiant complexion by morning.
Makeup-wise, my favourites include pretty much anything from Stila. I love their Set & Bronze Powder for a natural summer glow, and my By Terry lip balm for the perfect nude gloss. During TIFF, it’s all about long-lasting products, and I rely on Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, Too Faced mascara and Make Up Forever foundation to get me through TIFF meetings and events.
For hair, I usually add Kerastase Serum Oleo-Relax smoothing serum and stack a few Goody DoubleWear elastics on my wrist so I can put my hair up throughout the day. I have very frizzy, curly hair, and in the last few years I’ve started embracing it instead of blow-drying it all the time. In Toronto, I go to Brennen Demelo because I love the way he does my hair. Everyone in my office has a crush on him, as he’s very easy on the eyes! Whenever I visit Prive Salon in New York City I stock up on their Concept Green Conditioner and Shampoo. I’m also a fan of Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pak and Redken Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk.
I don’t get facials and I don’t do massages, but one of my indulgences is having my aesthetician, Danielle Manteiga of At Your Service Mobile Spa, come to my home weekly to do my nails and waxing. It’s such a treat to have it all done in the comfort of my home.
Best style advice?
Don’t wash your hair!
When it comes to clothes, be okay with dressing like you as opposed to conforming to the latest trend. Know what works on you and what doesn’t, and that it’s okay to be you. Trust yourself.
