We’re (sheepishly) proud to say that we can’t remember a time when nail art was as popular as it is now. And while our own manicures tend to the more conservative, when it comes to what looks we’re loving now, the more outrageous, the better. But what’s an out-there nail design without a suitable canvas? Perhaps that’s why dagger nails have made a comeback from the ’70s, giving stylists more room to play with.
Seen at spring/summer fashion weeks, the long, pointed tips have also been spotted trending on the hands of such stylesetters as Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
Perry recently sported the look in the video for her hit “Wide Awake,” while Gaga made an early splash with her femme fatale mani at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. (Remember her haute couture meat dress? Yup, that one.) And Adele flashed her killer metallic digits while accepting multiple awards at the 2012 Grammys.
Always pushing the beauty envelope, Rihanna also wore long, pointed brightly painted digits in the video for “What’s My Name?” (Check it out below.)
Kimmie Kyees, celebrity nail stylist and Rihanna’s manicurist, commented to InStyle that “Long, pointy nails elongate fingers, making them look nice and slender.”
So what do you think? Hot or not? We want to know!
