Beauty Confidential: Toronto Fashion Week Edition

In the days leading up to World Mastercard (Toronto) Fashion Week, three Elmer Olsen Model Management models dish on prepping for fashion week, their best beauty tricks and their dream shows.

Scouted by Elmer when she was 17, this striking beauty had almost decided it was time to quit and go back to school when she decided to give it one more go this show season. After walking for Alexander McQueen, Roland Mouret and Jil Sander, it’s clear she made the right choice.

On her fashion week prep….

I always try to squeeze in a manicure and pedicure between the show seasons in each city. Before all the craziness of Fashion Week starts in New York, I prepare by going to the gym and sessions at the sauna. At the end of Fashion Week, I like to retrieve my hair from all the products and heating with argan oil or coconut oil.

On her fashion week beauty secret…

Sleep and hydration! If I don’t get enough sleep due to having a super busy schedule, I keep my skin glowing by cleansing my face with Kellett Polishing Gel Cleanser and moisturizing with Clinique Superdefense moisturizer.

On her dream job…

It was always my dream to walk for Alexander McQueen and I have fulfilled that dream by walking for McQueen S/S 2013! It’s a very memorable moment in my life that I will never forget!
My dream campaign would have to be either for Lancome or Estee Lauder. I love to shoot beauty!

Best beauty advice…

The sauna! It’s incredible what texture results your skin gets after a session at the sauna. Cleansing, moisturizing and eating healthy give you the best skin results!

Best beauty trick…

Rollers for volume! Not heaters and backcomb teasing. You can never go wrong with red lipstick and mascara with big volume hair!

I can’t live without…

L’Oreal’s Telescopic mascara.

Beauty muse?
Angelina Jolie. She really shows how to make a woman feel sexy with her big red-stained lips and long lashes!

Grace has juggled part-time modelling and studies at the University of Toronto for years. But after deciding to go full-time last season, and placing with Just WM in Paris, she has walked exclusively for Givenchy and did all the major shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris, including Gucci, Fendi, Prada, LV, Pucci and Isabel Marant.

On her fashion week prep…

I stock up on hair masks, vegetables, water and sleep!

On her fashion week beauty secret…

Drinking Rooibos tea. It does wonders for your skin.

On her dream job…

Modelling was never a dream, but to be a CoverGirl would be pretty amazing.

Best beauty advice…

Be comfortable in your skin. Confidence is the most beautiful attribute.

Best beauty trick…

Messy bun–flip the ends of your hair in before you wrap your hairtie around to make the bun.

I can’t live without…

Morroccan oil hydrating hair mask.

Beauty muse?

Halle Berry. Gorgeous, talented, independent woman.

Scouted on Toronto’s trendy Queen Street while shopping for her sister’s prom dress, Dauphine has walked for Pink Tartan and Joe Fresh in Toronto, as well as the runways in Milan and Paris for the likes of Emporio and Giorgio Armani among others, all while pulling A+ grades in her last year of high school.

On her fashion week prep…

Moisturize moisturize moisturize! It’s so key to have healthy glowing skin going into Fashion Week—with all the crazy products they use to get those fabulous runway looks, a perfect base is so key! I love leaving my skin clean so it can breathe in between the crazy makeup of shows during Fashion Week. For my hair, I love doing a deep conditioning coconut mask.

On her fashion week beauty secret…

SLEEP! The only way you can look your best, walk your best on the runway and feel your best is if you are taking proper care of your body. If I don’t get enough sleep, it affects my appearance and my attitude, and you have to ALWAYS have a positive attitude at work and in life. So getting a good night’s sleep should always be the first step to looking great!

On her dream job…
My dream campaign would be Calvin Klein. I absolutely love everything about the brand, the clothes, the all-American style. As for my dream show, it would have to be Alexander Wang. The girls that walk in his show are just incredible, and his clothes are always so feminine but strong.

Best beauty advice?

Try to find your best feature, whether it’s beautiful eyes, strong brows or great cheekbones, and really enhance it. This will give you the confidence to try out new looks and makeup, while still looking great. If you’ve got the perfect lips to rock a bright red lip, go for it!

Best beauty trick?

Less is more. Armani has a great light foundation, and you can achieve that au naturel look while still covering blemishes. As for hair, I love the ponytail. You can keep it cute with a nice low ponytail, and even when you’re having a bad hair day, it looks great! A key trick to make it look nice is to take a little piece of hair and wrap it around the elastic–looks like it was professionally done!

I can’t live without…

My bottle of argan oil. After every shower, I dowse the ends of my hair with it. It nourishes and repairs my hair like nothing I’ve ever used.

Beauty muse?
Daria Werbowy. I think she has such an elegance and down to earth beauty about her. I recently saw her new Vogue cover and she looks absolutely stunning! The thing I love about her is the way her beauty changes to fit the story or campaign she is doing. That’s what I think true beauty is, someone that has the versatility to be beautiful in anything.
